i’ve always liked the transparency of blockchains.
but there’s one place where transparency can actually work against the user:
before an action happens.
if my order is visible before execution
if my bid is visible before an auction closes
if my strategy trigger is public before the market reaches it
then transparency has exposed information at exactly the wrong moment.
this is the problem that made @Nillion direction click for me.
Nillion started with the idea of computing on sensitive data without exposing it.
now Covenants push that thinking one step further.
instead of only protecting data they can protect intent.
you can seal an instruction to a condition. the instruction stays unreadable until that condition is actually satisfied.
Dusk is the first release bringing this model to Ethereum. Blacklight nodes help keep those instructions sealed without giving any single operator the whole secret.
that’s why i think Nillion’s move toward Encrypted Markets is bigger than simply adding privacy to a blockchain.
the goal is to make some information public only when being public no longer gives someone else an advantage.
that changes how i think about onchain privacy completely.
if you could keep one part of your onchain intent hidden until execution what would you protect first?
