A whale who typically trades altcoins has shifted focus to BTC and ETH immediately following last night's PPI data release.

According to Hypertracker data, this wallet has opened two high-leverage LONG positions:

$BTC LONG x40
Entry: $82,409
Position value: $149.56M
Liquidation price: $80,637

$ETH LONG x25
Entry: $2,455
Position value: $37.29M

What stands out to me is not only the size of these orders but also the relatively narrow gap between the entry price and the liquidation price. With this level of leverage, even a minor market correction could put significant pressure on these positions.

Take BTC as an example:

The entry price is $82,409, while the liquidation price stands at $80,637—a difference of approximately 2.15%.

This means that if BTC were to drop from $82,409 to $81,000, the LONG position would already be under considerable pressure, even before the price reaches the liquidation level.

With a position valued at up to $149.56 million, even a small market fluctuation could result in substantial profits or losses. This is precisely the double-edged nature of leverage: while profits are amplified, so too are the risks. While hotter-than-expected PPI data has forced the market to reassess interest rate outlooks, this whale has still opted to go LONG. They may be anticipating a return of capital flows into BTC and ETH, or they may believe that the market has already priced in most of the negative news. However, holding a large position does not guarantee that the whale is necessarily correct. While a large order size can sometimes signal strong conviction, it can also represent a high-risk gamble if the market moves contrary to their expectations.
