🚹 Bitwise’s DOGE ETF Is Closing Today—But Dogecoin Is Not Shutting Down

Bitwise’s Dogecoin ETF, BWOW, is scheduled to make its final NYSE Arca trade on October 14. The fund will convert its DOGE holdings to cash, and remaining shareholders are expected to receive cash distributions on October 22. [818]

The catch: This is a fund-specific liquidation, not a shutdown of the Dogecoin network or the DOGE token. Bitwise said it was optimizing its product lineup; DOGE trading and the network continue independently. [818]

Separately, a community proposal would cut Dogecoin’s block reward from 10,000 to 1,000 DOGE per block. It remains a proposal and would need broad consensus—not an approved protocol change. [2010]

The takeaway: The ETF closure is not the same as Dogecoin shutting down. Watch DOGE’s actual market activity and any governance progress on the reward proposal.
