Will September CPI change the oil-and-rates picture?
September CPI is due on October 14. The latest BLS release showed August CPI up 0.4% month over month and 3.4% over the year. Meanwhile, the EIA’s October outlook puts its average Brent forecast for Q4 at $105 a barrel. Oil has been volatile, so energy prices are one part of the inflation story I’ll be watching.
A hotter-than-expected CPI could put renewed upward pressure on Treasury yields; a cooler print could ease that pressure. But oil alone won’t decide the CPI result or the market’s next move.
I’m watching the CPI release and the BZUSDT chart—what matters more to you: the inflation number, or oil’s reaction after the release?
