🚹 IRAN’S RIAL FACES PRESSURE AS NEW CURRENCY REFORM MOVES FORWARD
.
Iran’s central bank has intervened in the foreign-exchange market to reduce sharp fluctuations in the rial, while the country continues preparing for a major currency reform.
.
On October 12, the dollar traded at approximately 2.628 million Iranian rials on Tehran’s free market, down from levels above 2.7 million. Reports said the central bank’s decision to supply foreign currency closer to market prices helped reduce short-term exchange-rate volatility.
.
Separately, Iran has approved a plan to remove four zeros from its national currency. Under the proposed conversion, 10,000 old rials would equal one new rial, simplifying prices and financial transactions.
.
However, removing zeros does not automatically increase purchasing power or stop inflation. The long-term impact will depend on whether Iran can stabilize prices, manage its economy and sustain confidence in the currency.
