$ZEC Zcash Set to Introduce Quantum Resistant Opcodes in January, Vizor Wallet Launches Private Query Feature
Zcash is making a notable move.
The Zakura full-node development team announced plans to introduce quantum-resistant signature opcodes to the network in January, enabling hash-based signatures for transparent payments.
Key details:
Zcash’s transparent payments publicly display transaction details, whereas shielded payments mask the sender, recipient, and amount.
The plan combines address rotation with private information queries; wallets can switch to a new address after each transaction, reducing the risk of public key exposure associated with WOTS (Winternitz One-Time Signature) hash-based signatures.
This week, the Vizor wallet launched a private query feature, which users can enable experimentally in the settings.
Note: Zakura’s plan currently covers only transparent Zcash payments. The network has not yet confirmed a specific activation date for the opcodes.
Ethereum researcher Justin Drake has previously warned that an AI-driven mathematical breakthrough could compromise related signature schemes within months rather than years. Vitalik Buterin has also suggested that encryption technology could be broken within the next two years.
This is a long-term issue, but one worth watching. Zcash is staying a step ahead in preparing for a post-quantum scenario.
Zcash is preparing for the post-quantum era, what do you think of this move? Could this become a long-term competitive advantage for ZEC?
