US Congress Prepares to Block russian Oil Purchases
Republican Brian Fitzpatrick has stated that he has secured the support of at least 218 members of Congress to advance a bill bypassing the relevant committee and the Speaker of the House.
The measure targets agreements made by Trump with the russian dictator regarding diesel fuel supplies. Democrats and Republicans warn that easing restrictions would provide moscow with additional revenue to fund the war against Ukraine.
In their view, the White House's decision also undermines the sanctions policy that Congress itself had recently sought to strengthen.
