#B3PlansSecuritiesTokenizationPlatformForFirstHalfOf2027
Brazil’s stock exchange is quietly building a bridge to blockchain. 🇧🇷
B3, the operator of Brazil’s main securities exchange, is preparing a tokenization platform, with the timeline pointing to the first half of 2027. Here’s what’s been reported so far:
B3 executives say the supporting infrastructure should be ready around the start of 2027, with testing expected to begin early that year. Listed shares are reportedly the starting point, followed by tokenized collateral. Debentures and other fixed-income instruments have been mentioned as possible candidates. A real-denominated stablecoin, B3RL, has been described as a settlement tool for tokenized trading. The exchange says the aim is to connect tokens to its existing trading and post-trading systems, so token and traditional buyers share the same liquidity.
Why it matters: B3 is Brazil’s only major exchange, so whatever it builds becomes the market’s plumbing. Tokenization here would be less about launching a parallel crypto venue and more about upgrading traditional rails, potentially enabling faster settlement and real-time collateral movement. It also lands as other large infrastructure players, such as DTCC, are exploring similar timelines, suggesting the idea is moving from pilot talk toward planning.
Open questions remain: regulatory approvals haven’t been publicly specified, and details like which layer the tokenization occurs at are still unclear.
Is this the start of exchanges absorbing tokenization into their core, rather than competing with it? Worth watching how the first tests unfold.
