Crypto Has 135,694 Millionaires, and This Is Supposedly Its Mildest Bear Market Ever

Exactly one year after the $19 billion liquidation crash, a new report puts the damage in perspective.

Henley & Partners' Crypto Wealth Report 2026 counts 135,694 people worldwide holding $1 million or more in digital assets. Of those, 92,272 are $BTC millionaires. Further up the pyramid are 290 holders with $100 million or more and 23 crypto billionaires, 9 of them in Bitcoin.

Ownership kept growing through the downturn too. The report estimates 742 million people now hold crypto in some form, 371 million of them holding Bitcoin, even as the market contracted. As of August 31, the total crypto market was worth about $2.6 trillion, with $1.6 trillion of that in Bitcoin.

Here's the comparison that stands out. The report says Bitcoin traded roughly 38% below its October 2025 peak at that point, after falling just under 50% from the top at its worst this year. It calls this the mildest of Bitcoin's major winters. The declines after the 2011, 2013, 2017, and 2021 peaks each cut the price by more than 75%.

The honest caveats:
📾 These are snapshot estimates, and wealth counts depend on how holdings are tracked
📈 $BTC has moved since that snapshot, rallying hard in Q3 before cooling in October
⏳ "Mildest so far" isn't "over," and past cycles don't forecast the next one

Still, a market that lost close to half its value and kept adding holders looks different from the 2018 or 2022 versions of crypto winter.

Does a milder drawdown mean the market has matured, or just that this cycle hasn't finished yet? 👇
