Bitcoin is under fresh pressure after dropping below $83,000 as crypto markets face a combination of heavy ETF outflows, rising oil prices and higher U.S. Treasury yields. BTC had recovered toward $87,000 earlier in October, but the latest selling has pushed the market back into a defensive phase.
The biggest shift is coming from Bitcoin ETFs. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded roughly $484.9 million in net outflows on October 7, completely reversing the $118.8 million inflow recorded one day earlier. BlackRock's IBIT was among the funds facing heavy withdrawals.
That reversal matters because ETF flows have been one of Bitcoin's strongest institutional demand signals. After strong inflows at the start of October, investors are now pulling capital from the same products as macro pressure increases.
Ethereum is facing an even tougher environment. Ether ETFs recorded about $160.9 million in outflows on October 7, following the $201.9 million withdrawal recorded on October 6. Solana ETFs also saw another day of outflows.
The macro picture is adding pressure. Brent crude climbed above $104 per barrel on Thursday, while the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield moved above 5.3%. Higher oil prices are raising inflation concerns, while higher bond yields make risk assets such as crypto less attractive to investors.
The Federal Reserve is also back at the center of the market narrative. Recent Fed signals have kept the possibility of another rate hike in focus, giving investors another reason to stay cautious while inflation remains elevated.
Bitcoin's decline also triggered a wider crypto selloff, with Ethereum falling below $2,600 and other major assets facing renewed selling pressure. More than $550 million in leveraged positions were reportedly wiped out during the broader move, adding another layer of volatility.
Pro Tip: Watch ETF flows together with Treasury yields and oil prices. A return to strong Bitcoin ETF inflows while yields and oil cool would improve the market backdrop. Continued outflows alongside rising yields would signal that institutional demand is still under pressure.
Bitcoin is now entering a key part of October. ETF demand has weakened sharply, macro conditions are tightening and BTC has lost the momentum that carried it toward $87K. The next major signal will be whether institutional flows stabilize or continue moving deeper into negative territory.
