Tokenization is everywhere in crypto headlines.
But according to the IMF, tokenized real-world assets were still only around $65 BILLION as of July.
That sounds small — until you look at how people are already using them.
🌙 50%+ of tokenized stock trading happens outside normal market hours
🧩 Around 80% of analyzed trades were for less than one full share
⚡ Tokenization can offer 24/7 access, fractional ownership and faster settlement
And tokenized repo activity has already climbed to roughly $371B on a 30-day moving-average basis.
But the IMF also sees a warning:
⚠️ Liquidity is still thin
⚠️ Markets remain fragmented
⚠️ Tokenized equities showed roughly 1.5× the volatility of traditional markets in the IMF analysis
⚠️ Stablecoin settlement, smart contracts and cross-chain bridges can introduce new risks.
My takeaway:
The RWA story may be small today, but that could also mean the adoption curve is still early.
I’m watching infrastructure projects connected to tokenization, settlement and on-chain finance — not blindly buying every “RWA” token.
