$SUI , $NEAR R and $AAVE often get grouped together, but they aren't competitors. Two are networks and one is an application, and that changes how each one grows.
Sui is a Layer 1 built on the Move language, with an object-based model. NEAR is also a Layer 1, but it scales through sharding. Both need developers and users to make the network worth using. Aave doesn't run its own chain. It's a lending protocol where people earn interest or borrow against collateral. A chain can exist without a lending app. A lending app can't exist without a chain.
That makes Aave's choice of where to deploy important. In July 2026 it launched V4 on Avalanche, but governance also proposed ending deployments on six chains as deposits fell sharply. Aave stays where the liquidity is. (crypto) (crypto)
On Sui, there's a governance temp check proposing an Aave launch, but one commenter pushed back that Sui differs from the EVM, so Aave can't simply deploy there. I couldn't find evidence that Aave is live on either Sui or NEAR. (aave) (aave)
Chains gain from lending because it keeps liquidity in place. Aave already has other homes, so it doesn't depend on any single network. Sui and NEAR look like the ones with more to gain. Whether Aave sees enough there to make the move is what I'm watching.
