What if the biggest crypto security mistake isn’t waiting too long, but moving too fast? 👀

Vitalik Buterin’s latest warning about AI-accelerated mathematics caught my attention. The concern is that advances in AI could weaken cryptographic systems sooner than the industry expects, including lattice-based cryptography and potentially ECDSA. But nothing has been broken yet.

What makes this interesting is that the response inside Ethereum isn’t completely aligned.

Justin Drake has pushed a much more urgent “bunker mode” approach, while Vitalik has said he would not recommend people suddenly scrambling to move their funds.

And I think that distinction matters more than the scary AI headline.

Crypto security isn’t only about whether someone eventually discovers a mathematical breakthrough. It’s also about whether millions of users, wallets and protocols can upgrade safely before that happens.

A rushed migration can create its own attack surface. A delayed migration can leave systems exposed.

My prediction: I don’t think this becomes an immediate reason to sell ETH or move funds today. I think the bigger story will be the next few years of cryptographic upgrades quietly happening underneath the market.

The question I’m asking is:

If AI makes mathematical breakthroughs happen faster, can crypto upgrade its security faster too?

Would you prepare early, or wait until there is stronger evidence of an actual threat? 👇
