Cardano just smashed its own TPS record.
New Peak for Cardano Throughput
The @Cardano blockchain set a new transactions-per-second record on October 7, 2026, reaching 329 TPS according to data tracked by @chainspect_app. The figure clears Cardano's previous high-water mark of 304 TPS, which was recorded in late 2024, and represents the network's best-ever mainnet throughput reading.
For a network that has long drawn criticism over base-layer speed, the milestone carries symbolic weight. Chainspect, an independent blockchain analytics platform that monitors real-time and peak TPS across more than 40 chains, is the primary tracker cited by the broader Cardano community for performance benchmarks.
What Comes Next for $ADA Scalability
The 329 TPS reading is a mainnet figure, and it still sits well below the throughput targets Cardano has outlined for the near term. The network is working toward the Ouroboros Leios upgrade, which simulations suggest could push base-layer throughput to between 300 and 1,000-plus TPS, with peaks potentially reaching 10,000 TPS, according to analysis from TradingKey. Phase 1 of the broader Dijkstra era, which targets activating Ouroboros Linear Leios, is aiming for a Q4 2026 timeline, per CoinMarketCap.
Whether a fresh TPS record is enough to accelerate builder activity around $ADA remains an open question. Developer commit counts on Chainspect place Cardano among the more active blockchain ecosystems by development output, but critics have pointed to thin DEX liquidity and modest on-chain activity as ongoing constraints on ecosystem growth.
The Hydra Layer-2 protocol remains a longer-range option for burst throughput. In controlled testing environments, Hydra has demonstrated far higher figures, though those results reflect off-chain head channels rather than settled mainnet transactions.
The 329 TPS record is incremental progress. For builders and investors watching $ADA, the more consequential question is whether the Leios mainnet rollout arrives on schedule and delivers the step-change in throughput that Cardano's roadmap has promised.
