🟡 Gold & silver | Oct. 5 close
Gold was almost unchanged at $4,139 (-0.01%), while silver held up better at $60.95 (+1.12%).
The soft payroll report pushed October hike odds down to around 22–24%, from roughly 70% last week. But inflation concerns haven’t gone away: ISM Services prices came in at 74.0, their highest since July 2022, and the 10-year yield was near 5.31%, its highest since April 2002. A firmer dollar added pressure. Oil eased, with WTI at $89.43 (-1.8%) and Brent at $100.32 (-1.9%), though Hormuz risk remains in the background.
Levels to watch
Gold: Support at $4,101 / $4,073; resistance at $4,164 / $4,204. Still range-bound until it closes outside.
Silver: Support at $60.72 / $59.34. A break above $61.74–$62.00 could open the way toward $64, near the 50-day average.
The next tests are Wednesday’s Fed minutes at 14:00 ET, jobless claims Thursday and consumer sentiment Friday. I wouldn’t chase the London spike-and-fade. Gold remains capped by yields; silver looks firmer, but hasn’t broken out. Cash is a position into the minutes. NFA.
