The Clean Room Belongs To Somebody 🧼

US retail media spending is heading for about $70B this year, and almost all of it depends on two companies comparing customer lists without either one handing the list over.

The industry's answer is the data clean room, now used in some form by around 66% of organisations, where two parties upload data, the overlap gets measured and nobody is supposed to see the other side.

It works, and the thing holding it up is that the room has an owner. The biggest ones belong to the same platforms selling the ads, which is the part ad tech quietly accepts because there is no alternative.

On $SOL that pattern repeats anywhere two businesses want a shared answer, since a program has to be handed both inputs before it can compare them.

Arcium removes the room. Each side's list goes in as fragments across a cluster of nodes, no single node holds a readable copy of either, and what comes back is the overlap and nothing else.

That result settles on Solana as an ordinary public transaction, so both sides can prove what was measured and when.

Confidential computation has been live on Mainnet Alpha since February 2, with fifteen teams building on it.

A clean room is a promise enforced by whoever owns the room, and the version I want is the one where no room exists to be trusted.
