Zcash Tests NU7 Upgrade, Cutting Block Time to 25 Seconds Ahead of Planned November Launch
Zcash’s NU7 upgrade reduces the target time between blocks from 75 seconds to 25 seconds. It also disables version 4 transactions and introduces a Network Sustainability Mechanism, which directs a portion of transaction fees toward future block rewards.
Disabling version 4 transactions has an important consequence for users: any ZEC remaining in Sprout, Zcash’s legacy shielded pool, will become unspendable unless users move their funds before NU7 is fully activated.
