$SOL Solana Foundation Director Urges Robinhood to Leave Arbitrum: "L2s Aren't Good Enough Anymore"

Chase Barker, senior director at the Solana Foundation just made a striking proposal: $HOOD Chain should abandon Arbitrum and move to Solana or build its own chain.

Barker's argument:

Layer 2s can't scale effectively on performance and cost

Centralization issues have limited growth on multiple fronts

Robinhood should choose one of two paths: build an entirely new high-performance chain, or move directly to Solana

This is a clearly strategic statement and the motive isn't hard to see. Barker represents the Solana Foundation, and Robinhood moving to Solana would be a major win for that ecosystem.

But don't dismiss his argument just because of the motive. There's some truth in it.

Layer 2s like $ARB have faced centralization concerns: centralized sequencers, centralized governance, and reliance on Ethereum L1 for security. On performance, L2s are still constrained by data posting costs to L1.

Meanwhile, Solana took a different path: a high-performance L1, no fragmentation. With fast finality and low costs, Solana is attracting apps that need high throughput.

The real question is: what does Robinhood need?

If they need Ethereum-grade security with lower costs, Arbitrum makes sense. If they need maximum performance and are willing to trade off other factors, Solana is more attractive.

Barker publicly making this pitch shows competition between ecosystems is heating up not just at the technical level, but at the level of convincing major projects to pick a side.

What do you think should Robinhood leave Arbitrum, or is Barker just talking his own book?
