🌍 The Countries Where Crypto Lives Between People, Not Just Platforms

Crypto services had a tough year, with value flowing through exchanges, DeFi and other crypto platforms falling 4.3%.

Meanwhile, value moving directly between personal wallets within countries jumped 302.9% to $228.7 billion, with 96% of this activity involving stablecoins.

According to Chainalysis’ 2026 Global Crypto Adoption Index, these are the top 8 countries for domestic peer-to-peer crypto activity:

đŸ„‡ Nigeria — #1 in P2P and cross-border flows
đŸ„ˆ China — #2 in P2P
đŸ„‰ Brazil — #1 overall and consistently among the top countries across categories
4ïžâƒŁ South Africa — #3 in cross-border activity
5ïžâƒŁ Thailand
6ïžâƒŁ Ukraine
7ïžâƒŁ Canada — #7 in both P2P and cross-border flows
8ïžâƒŁ Mexico — #5 in cross-border flows

For comparison, đŸ‡ș🇾 the US ranks #1 in service flows but #20 in P2P, while 🇬🇧 the UK ranks #6 in service flows and #24 in P2P.

The pattern is interesting: in many emerging markets, crypto is being used not only as an investment, but also for payments, savings and sending money directly between people. 🌍💰

What about your country — does crypto live more on platforms or between people? 👀
