BlockBeats news, October 4: Hong Kong police received a report on October 3 from a 60-year-old woman. The woman had previously met a person claiming to be an "investment expert" on an online platform, who later induced her through an online investment platform to invest in cryptocurrency on a fake website.The platform involved subsequently demanded that the woman pay a deposit to prove that her investment account had not been used for money laundering. Between April 14 and September 22, the woman transferred funds multiple times to designated investment accounts, totaling about HK$21.5 million, and later reported the matter to police after suspecting she had been defrauded.After a preliminary investigation, police classified the case as "obtaining property by deception" and handed it to the Fourth Team of the Criminal Investigation Unit of Sau Mau Ping Police District for follow-up. No one has been arrested so far. Police said that upon conviction, the offense carries a maximum penalty of 14 years' imprisonment.
