I keep coming back to Ethereum because the setup is starting to look interesting again.
ETH finished Q3 up more than 70%, while Bitcoin gained more than 40%. That is a big difference in a single quarter, and it tells me the market was already rotating beyond BTC before October even started.
But I don’t want to make the usual crypto mistake and draw two lines on a chart and call the next move guaranteed.
The ETH/BTC ratio is the part I care about most. It pushed sharply higher through September and reached a seven month high, but it has since cooled back toward 0.032. Current technical data is much more mixed than the clean breakout story you see on social media.
That actually makes this more interesting to me.
Ethereum does not need to explode immediately. I want to see whether it can keep holding the higher range while Bitcoin remains strong. If BTC continues climbing and ETH starts outperforming at the same time, that is when I would take the rotation story much more seriously.
There is another piece I don’t want to ignore: ETF demand.
Ethereum ETFs attracted hundreds of millions of dollars during the strongest part of September, including a $270M inflow day on September 21. But the flow picture has already cooled. Ethereum ETFs recorded about $118M of net outflows for the week ending October 2, while Bitcoin ETFs still posted a provisional inflow.
So right now, I see a market that is giving ETH a chance, not one that has already confirmed an ETH-led altcoin move.
The October data is interesting too. Ethereum’s historical October return averages about +4.8%, with eight positive and four negative Octobers in the available history. October 2026 has started slightly positive, but it is far too early to make seasonality the thesis.
And Bitcoin is still the elephant in the room.
BTC is sitting around $84.5K after briefly reaching above $87K, while ETH is around $2.7K. Bitcoin also saw renewed ETF demand at the start of October, so I don’t think ETH can completely separate itself from BTC yet.
My view is pretty simple.
I don’t need ETH to repeat 2018, 2021 or any other cycle perfectly. Markets rarely copy and paste history. What I want to see is ETH holding its recent range, ETH/BTC building higher lows, and ETF demand returning after the recent outflows.
If that happens while Bitcoin stays above the low $80Ks, I think the conversation around Ethereum changes pretty quickly.
For now, I’m not chasing the prediction. I’m watching the relative strength. That’s where the real signal is.
