💳 Cards vs Stablecoins: Who Wins❔

Visa and Mastercard are increasingly facing a new competitor: stablecoins.

⏺ Stablecoin payments can operate 24/7 and move directly between participants without relying entirely on traditional card infrastructure.

⏺ For merchants, that could mean fewer intermediaries and new ways to settle payments.

⏺ But payment giants aren’t sitting back: Mastercard completed its acquisition of stablecoin infrastructure company BVNK for up to $1.8 billion.

⏺ Mastercard is also expanding settlement using regulated stablecoins such as USDC, PYUSD and RLUSD, while Visa is building out its own stablecoin payment infrastructure.

Bottom line:
Cards aren’t going away. They’re trying to become the infrastructure connecting traditional money and stablecoins. The question is no longer simply “who wins?” it’s who controls the payment rails.
