🚨 Japan Moves Forward With Another Stablecoin Pilot! 🇯🇵
Japan’s Financial Services Agency (FSA) has backed its 4th Payment Innovation Project (PIP), bringing the total number of supported projects to 15.
The initiative brings together major financial and technology players, including TradeWaltz, NTT DATA, Mizuho Bank, MUFG Bank, SMBC, and Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking Corporation.
💡 What are they testing?
The project will explore how stablecoins can be used for trade settlement, while also examining the legal and practical challenges involved.
The pilot is scheduled to begin in September 2026 and will continue until further notice, with its findings expected to be shared through the FSA’s official channels.
The bigger goal is to make trade finance more efficient — including faster exporter payments and automated payment instructions and confirmation of receipts through digital infrastructure.
NTT DATA is involved as the system integrator, while smart-contract infrastructure such as Chainlink could play a role in automating parts of the payment process.
Japan’s major financial institutions are increasingly experimenting with real-world stablecoin use cases. 🌏💰
