Three people familiar with the matter told CoinDesk that Ondo Finance was shopped to potential buyers after founder Nathan Allman's death.
But there's a huge caveat:
Ondo denies it completely.
The company says nobody at Ondo sought buyers, entered sale talks or acted on its behalf. The estate declined to comment, and no sale valuation has been established.
The deeper problem is what happened underneath the rumor.
Allman died on May 25 as Ondo's CEO, sole director and controlling shareholder, leaving no will. His controlling equity and a large ONDO allocation entered probate.
The result became a Delaware control fight. A Sept. 3 court order keeps Ian De Bode as CEO and board member while restricting major corporate changes.
And here's the strange part:
while ownership and control remain contested, the business hasn't stopped building.
On Sept. 24, Ondo launched three new onchain portfolio products based on investment strategies developed by BlackRock.
That's the real lesson.
Ondo is building the future of tokenized finance on-chain — but its own succession is being decided off-chain.
The assets may be programmable.
Corporate control isn't.

Can the business keep expanding institutional adoption while the legal question of who controls the company remains unresolved?
