On September 24, New York Attorney General Letitia James filed a lawsuit against QCX LLC, which operates Polymarket US, alleging that its prediction markets amount to unlicensed gambling in the state. New York is asking the court to stop Polymarket from offering these contracts without the required state licenses and is also seeking restitution, disgorgement and other penalties. The filing specifically asks for a penalty equal to three times Polymarket’s gains from the alleged illegal activity, plus $100,000 for each unauthorized offer or attempted offer of sports wagering in New York. Another major issue is age access: the state says Polymarket is available to users aged 18–20, while New York requires mobile sports bettors to be at least 21.
