Heavy bearish bets on Wall Street might look like a textbook squeeze setup, but traders trying to front-run the reversal are taking on massive downside risk.

Most retail traders blow up their accounts buying dips too early because they mistake institutional hedging for an immediate bottom. Getting caught holding spot while institutional capital stays hesitant is an easy way to get trapped in extended drawdowns.

Recent JPMorgan data shows $IBIT short interest hovering near its 2026 highs, with its put/call ratio continuing to outpace gold. At the same time, spot $BTC ETFs have only recovered around half of their previous outflows, whereas traditional gold funds have already staged a full recovery.

Having so much skeptical capital sidelined creates potential future buying pressure, but it also means the downside is far from protected. If macro headwinds persist, those heavy short positions will simply drag spot prices lower rather than sparking an instant squeeze.

How are you managing your exposure while ETF inflows remain hesitant?
