Why do traders wait for a breakout retest?

Because the first breakout can be a fakeout.

Example:

Resistance → breakout → price comes back → old resistance holds as support.

That retest tells you buyers are still willing to defend the breakout area.

It's not guaranteed, but it gives traders more information than simply buying the first green candle.
