EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen proposed making Canada the bloc’s first “associate member”, opening the door to deeper cooperation in defence, AI, critical minerals, energy, cybersecurity and Arctic projects. 🤝🌍

The idea is still only aspirational, with no existing EU legal category for associate membership. PM Mark Carney welcomed closer ties, with more details expected at the EU–Canada summit in Montreal later this October. 👀
