## Dollar Strengthens as Global Central Banks Tighten Policy
Global currency markets remained highly active over the past 24 hours as major central banks continued to respond to persistent inflation pressures.
The **U.S. dollar strengthened against several major currencies**, while the Japanese yen weakened sharply after the Bank of Japan raised its policy rate to **1.25%**. The dollar gained more than 1.2% against the yen, reaching around **¥158.07 per dollar**.
### FEDERAL RESERVE
The Federal Reserve raised its benchmark interest-rate target by **0.25 percentage point**, with policymakers signaling continued attention to inflation. Updated projections also indicated that many policymakers expect another quarter-point increase before the end of 2026.
### BANGLADESH TAKA
Bangladesh's foreign-exchange market has recently experienced pressure from increased demand for U.S. dollars. Bangladesh Bank intervened in the market by selling dollars to commercial banks in an auction designed to contain upward pressure on the exchange rate.
Bangladesh Bank's published reference data show the USD/BDT rate at **Tk 123.0078** for transactions through 5:00 PM on September 17, 2026.
### JAPANESE YEN
The yen moved lower despite the Bank of Japan's rate increase, as markets viewed the central bank's guidance as less hawkish than expected. This contributed to a significant rise in the dollar-yen exchange rate.
## MARKET WATCH
**USD:** Stronger
**JPY:** Weaker against USD
**BDT:** Under recent exchange-rate pressure
**Global Rates:** Tightening bias
