🚨 LIQUID NETWORK HIT BY MAJOR BTC EXPLOIT
Nearly 4,000 BTC — valued at roughly $320M — was withdrawn from Liquid Network’s federation wallet in a major security incident.
The attackers claimed to be “white-hat” hackers, leaving an on-chain message asking Liquid to contact them. The incident forced the network to pause bridge activity and prompted exchanges to suspend LBTC deposits and withdrawals.
But there’s a major twist 👀
After Blockstream patched the reported vulnerability, the attackers returned approximately 3,400 BTC, or around 85% of the funds. Roughly 600 BTC, worth about $47M, reportedly remains under their control.
The incident appears to have involved a vulnerability in the Elements software underlying Liquid, rather than a direct compromise of the network’s cryptographic keys.
