🆘 Tectonic Exploit Hits $74M as Cronos Emergency-Stops the Network
Tectonic, a lending protocol on the Cronos network, has reportedly been exploited for up to $74 million, prompting Cronos to temporarily halt the entire network to contain the incident.
The intervention appears to have limited the attacker’s ability to move the stolen funds.
So far, the hacker reportedly managed to transfer only around $6 million to Ethereum before Cronos was frozen. Roughly $60 million remains on Cronos, where the funds are currently unable to move.
The suspected attacker’s funds are spread across several addresses:
• ~$60M on Cronos: 0x7d4e...4f2dc
• ~$6M bridged to Ethereum: 0xc404...72dd
• ~$8M on Cronos: 0x215a...d3fc
The incident highlights a difficult trade-off for blockchain networks: stopping the entire chain can potentially prevent further losses, but it also demonstrates how much control a network retains during an emergency.
For now, the key question is whether Cronos can recover the remaining funds and determine exactly how the Tectonic exploit occurred.
