Every cycle, crypto rediscovers the real world. I've watched this film three times now ICOs that would "tokenize everything," enterprise blockchains that would "rewire trade finance," DeFi that would "replace banks." Each arrived with huge numbers and a certainty that this was it. Then most of it went quiet.

Tokenized real-world assets are the current wave. I'm not cynical about it some of it is clearly real. But I've learned to distrust the excitement and watch for the boring signals instead. So here's the test I actually use.

Is there settled volume of genuinely regulated assets, or just TVL chasing tokenized-treasury yield? Is a licensed venue really operating, or is it a pilot and a press release? Does the unglamorous back office servicing, tax, custody, redemption actually run on-chain, or only the mint? And does it survive one stress event without a rescue?

This is where a chain like Dusk is worth watching, precisely because it's built for the parts the hype waves skip: compliance, privacy, settlement, the plumbing. That's either why it ends up being real, or why it stays slower and less exciting than the timeline wants.

The tell won't be the narrative trending. It'll be whether regulated volume quietly shows up and stays. If it does, this wave is different. If it doesn't, we've seen this movie.
