đŸ€– China’s AI giants are facing record short bets.

Hong Kong-listed MiniMax and Z.AI are seeing short positions climb to record levels ahead of their earnings reports.

MiniMax is the bigger target:

Short interest ≈ 20% of its free float.

For Z.AI, the figure is around 6%.

The short positions surged as investors became increasingly concerned about intense competition in China’s AI model market, as well as pressure on future profitability and valuations.

Both companies attracted huge attention after entering the market earlier this year, but their stocks have since pulled back from record highs.

Now traders are betting against them.

20% of the float being short is not exactly a small vote of confidence. 💀

And if the earnings surprise to the upside?

That much crowded short interest could make things very interesting.
