I had a cold cup of chai beside my phone, and Iâd somehow managed to open three tabs about the same thing. Very efficient. đ
My first reaction was simple: if Layer-2 networks can add privacy on top of another blockchain, why would you need a whole privacy-focused Layer-1?
Then I realized I was comparing the wrong layers.
With a Layer-2 privacy solution, the underlying Layer-1 still handles the base infrastructure, while the privacy system sits above it. Dusk takes a different approach by putting privacy much closer to the foundation itself.$DUSK
That could matter for financial applications.
If confidentiality is something the network is designed around from the beginning, developers arenât necessarily treating privacy as an extra feature they have to bolt on later.
But I donât think that automatically makes the Layer-1 approach better.
A native privacy architecture can also mean more complexity at the base layer, and that could affect performance, development, interoperability, or even how easily users move between ecosystems.@Dusk
So Iâm stuck somewhere in the middle.
Layer-2 privacy feels more modular. A privacy-focused Layer-1 feels more deeply integrated.
