I keep getting stuck on one boring part of tokenized SME markets. The asset can be digital, the investor can be eligible, the trade can even be matched quickly, but cash and ownership still have to meet somewhere. If they move separately, someone is carrying risk in the gap.
That makes atomic settlement on Dusk more interesting to me than raw transaction speed. The security leg and payment leg resolve together. Either both move, or neither does. Small detail, until I think about thousands of SME securities where liquidity is already thin and counterparties cannot casually absorb settlement uncertainty.
“liquidity is partly confidence that the other side will actually arrive.”
But then the trust boundary just moves. Before settlement, the system still inherits earlier answers. Is this wallet eligible? Is this asset transferable? Has compliance already cleared the participant? Atomic settlement does not reconsider those decisions. It consumes them, then makes the final exchange harder to separate.
Maybe that is the hidden layer. Dusk would not create SME liquidity simply by settling atomically. It could remove one reason capital hesitates to move.
And I’m still wondering how much liquidity in Europe’s private markets is actually missing demand, versus capital quietly refusing to enter because settlement remains awkward.
