US Dollar Forecast: Can PPI Strengthen the Dollar?

The U.S. dollar is facing a key test as traders assess fresh inflation data and the outlook for Federal Reserve policy. The latest U.S. Producer Price Index (PPI) for July came in flat month-over-month, below economists’ expectations for a 0.2% rise. Year-over-year PPI growth also slowed to 4.7% from 5.5% in June.

The softer PPI reading has reduced expectations for a September Federal Reserve rate hike, putting pressure on the Dollar Index (DXY). The index was recently around 99.88, while EUR/USD traded near $1.1536.

For forex traders, the next move could depend on whether upcoming U.S. economic data strengthens or weakens the case for higher-for-longer interest rates. A stronger inflation signal could revive dollar demand, while continued cooling inflation may keep EUR/USD and GBP/USD supported.

The market is therefore watching DXY’s ability to regain the 100 level, while traders monitor key support and resistance zones in EUR/USD and GBP/USD.
