Public blockchains are transparent by design, but financial markets cannot operate with every balance, position, and agreement visible to everyone. Dusk is tackling that conflict directly by building privacy and selective disclosure into a Layer-1 network focused on regulated finance.
That direction makes sense. Banks, issuers, investors, and regulators do not all need access to the same information. Dusk’s XSC standard aims to keep financial activity confidential while still allowing rules around identity, eligibility, and asset transfers to be enforced.
The difficult part, however, begins after the technology works.
If five different parties are involved in a transaction, each may require a different view of the data. Who decides what each party can see? What happens when an employee leaves or disclosure credentials are lost? Can an auditor access the required records quickly without relying on one administrator?
These are human and operational questions, not purely cryptographic ones.
Dusk deserves credit for recognizing that financial privacy cannot simply mean hiding everything. The bigger test is whether institutions can manage disclosure, recovery, and accountability without creating another complicated layer of administration.
For Dusk, success will not be measured by how much information it can conceal, but by how reliably it reveals the right information when it matters.
