Nobody warns u that the hardest part of trading isn't the market.
It's telling people what u do.
I've gotten "so it's basically gambling right" more times than I can count. From family. At dinner. Always with that little laugh at the end.
For a long time I got defensive and tried to explain risk models to people who weren't asking a real question. Waste of breath, every time.
What I say now: "I manage risk for a living, most days are boring." Then I change the subject. And it's true. The boring days are the profitable ones.
4 years in, I've noticed the loudest people in this space usually have the smallest positions. The quiet ones are the ones still here.
