Just in time for Halloween, Stephen Mollah, a British-Asian macroeconomist claiming to be the elusive Satoshi Nakamoto, made a fresh attempt to validate his identity through a recent press conference. However, despite his efforts, Mollahâs attempt at proof didnât land as he may have hoped.
đ¶Press Conference by the So-Called âSatoshiâ Falls Flat
Stephen Mollah has stepped forward, claiming to be none other than Satoshi Nakamoto, the mind behind Bitcoin. In London, he appeared at an event supposedly organized to let the press grill him on this assertion. BBC News contributor Joe Tidy, who attended, commented that the âorganiser asked me to pay ÂŁ500 to attend and appear on stage to ask questions of the billionaire mystery man.â
Tidy continued:
A man called Stephen Mollah has taken to the stage. He claims to be Satoshi Nakamoto â the mystery inventor of Bitcoin. Heâs claimed this before and is currently in legal dispute about it. He will now provide evidence, he says.
BBC News contributor Joe Tidy noted that so-called âSatoshiâ and his organizer couldnât manage to get their laptop working, forcing them to continue the event offline, at least temporarily. Tidy went on to say that Mollah described his background as that of an economic and monetary scientist. Mollah also claimed he attempted to reveal himself as Satoshi back in 2016 but was âstoppedâ by an unnamed individual.
âJournalists (including myself) have interrupted Mr Mollahâs long backstory and asked for him to show the promised evidence,â the BBC reporter stated. âBeen here nearly an hour and people are restless and increasingly rude. Mr Mollahâs cheek is twitching rapidly as he stares down a sceptical crowd. Tried to film the demonstration but it doesnât seem to be forthcoming.â
Tidy added:
Mr. Mollah is showing a series of easy to fake screenshots. I asked if he will move some of the Genesis bitcoins to finally prove he is Satoshi. He said he will in the next few months. I have left the conference.
While Mollahâs ambition to establish his identity as Satoshi Nakamoto is noteworthy, the demonstration left more questions than answers. From charging attendees a hefty fee to presenting questionable âevidence,â the press conference appeared to offer little clarity. Mollahâs vague promise to move bitcoins from the Genesis block at a later date does little to bolster his claim, leaving only a cloud of doubt as the most tangible takeaway from an otherwise ambiguous spectacle.
Despite his claims and efforts to prove himself as Bitcoinâs creator, Mollahâs presentation fell flat, exposing a struggle to present convincing proof amid mounting skepticism. A promise to verify his identity months from now instead of on the spot does little to inspire confidence. If Mollah truly held the credentials he claims, one might expect a more substantial showcaseâyet, attendees were left with only a boring sideshow and lingering doubts.#BinanceBlockchainWeek
