I have a question that’s been stuck in my head for a while: why is only around 1% (some recent data even shows closer to 0.5 0.8%) of all Bitcoin actually used in DeFi?
It’s not because people don’t want yield or utility. The real wall is trust. Right now, to put BTC on-chain you almost always need to wrap it, bridge it, or hand it to some intermediary. That extra custodian can seize or freeze your coins no matter what the smart contract says. For a lot of long-term holders, that’s simply a non-starter which is why over a trillion dollars of BTC still sits idle.
I finally sat down and read Babylon’s full Trustless BTCVault 101, and it actually makes the solution clear:
You lock native BTC in a Bitcoin script that you create yourself (your own vault).
The vault stays segregated no pooling, no rehypothecation.
Smart contracts on the DeFi chain decide who can claim the BTC, but the ownership transfer is enforced on the Bitcoin chain itself through cryptographic proofs (SNARKs + garbled circuits + Bitcoin script).
No wrapping, no bridging, no third-party custodian that can override the rules.
There is a short claim delay so anyone can challenge a false claim, which is the price of staying fully trustless.
In short, TBV turns Bitcoin into programmable collateral while keeping the same security model Bitcoin holders already trust. Their staking side already has tens of thousands of BTC locked (~51k+ BTC last I checked), and now the vaults are extending that same self-custodial approach into actual DeFi use cases.
This feels like the kind of infrastructure that could finally move the needle on that 1% number.

BTC wrapped up another green week and continues to hold above the 200 week moving average, which is still a strong sign for the bigger picture. The weekly MACD has turned bullish, and the RSI bullish divergence remains intact.
Key levels to watch:

Resistance: $67K–$68K
Support: $63.5K and $58K

As long as BTC stays above the 200-week MA, the trend remains in the bulls' favor. A clean break above $67K could open the door for the next leg up. 🚀

I just checked out the new Babylon BTC Vault Explorer from xangle_official and it’s actually really solid.
As the default explorer for TBV, the dashboard gives a clear look at vault activity, accounts, vault analytics, lending positions, and other key on-chain metrics. I’ve been waiting for something like this because transparency matters a lot when you’re dealing with Bitcoin in DeFi. Being able to track real vault activity and positions without jumping through multiple tools is a big plus.
I think this is another step that shows Babylon is focused on building proper infrastructure around Trustless Bitcoin Vaults, not just hype. The more visibility and tools like this that go live, the easier it becomes for people to understand and trust the system.
