Acerca de Dogecoin (DOGE)

Jackson Palmer y Billy Markus desarrollaron Dogecoin en 2013, cuando decidieron crear una versión irónica de las altcoins que, en ese momento, ganaban una popularidad constante entre los especuladores de criptomonedas. 

Dogecoin comenzó como una "moneda meme" que se burlaba del alboroto en torno a las nuevas altcoins que ingresaban al mercado. Inicialmente, Dogecoin tenía muy poco valor y se utilizaba como un mecanismo de propinas para agradecer a los usuarios en redes sociales y foros en línea, como Reddit. 

Un aspecto notable de Dogecoin fue que tomó prestado el algoritmo de consenso Proof of Work (PoW) basado en scrypt que utilizaba el ahora extinto Luckycoin, que a su vez tomó prestada mucha de su tecnología de Litecoin. 

Los mecanismos PoW crean consenso mediante una red de computadoras que ejecutan el software. Esto permite que cualquier persona con un dispositivo informático válido y una conexión a internet para dedicar recursos informáticos se convierta en un validador de la red Dogecoin. A cambio, los validadores reciben recompensas de minería en la forma de más Dogecoin. El mecanismo PoW también garantiza que Dogecoin pueda ofrecer transacciones ágiles y comisiones bajas, lo que contribuye a su adopción por parte de los entusiastas de las criptomonedas. 

La comunidad de Dogecoin es muy conocida y sus miembros se autodenominan "Shibes". En la actualidad, Dogecoin se sigue utilizando para dar propinas a los creadores en línea. También se utiliza, aunque con poca frecuencia, para el e-commerce, ya que los usuarios pueden comprar bienes y servicios con Dogecoin en comercios seleccionados. 

Dogecoin se lanzó con un suministro máximo de 100 mil millones de DOGE, aunque el tope de capitalización acaba de eliminarse, lo que convierte el suministro en ilimitado.
