Solana Labs, a prominent blockchain company, is making strides in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) with its recent focus on Chat GPT. Anatoly Yakovenko, the co-founder and CEO of Solana Labs, shared insights into the company’s AI initiatives during a discussion with Jonathan Abramovich, who leads infrastructure business development for Solana Foundation.

Yakovenko expressed his enthusiasm for the natural language interface enabled by Chat GPT, comparing it to the revolutionary impact of Microsoft Windows and the computer mouse. He believes that AI-driven text-based interfaces have the potential to revolutionize how we interact with computers by enabling complex actions through conversation-like interactions. However, Yakovenko acknowledged that there is still much work to be done to fully harness the usefulness of AI.

According to Yakovenko, integrating AI into Solana will enhance its usability and comprehensibility. He emphasized the advantages of crypto APIs over traditional finance-focused centralized service providers, highlighting their trustless nature and greater programability. With AI’s ability to deploy smart contracts and conduct transactions, Solana’s capabilities will be significantly enhanced.

The ChatGPT plugin developed by Solana aims to provide a text interface for users to interact with on-chain data. Yakovenko mentioned that while the current version can describe on-chain objects, he envisions a more advanced plugin capable of executing transactions on the chain itself. Despite this, he expressed satisfaction with the initial development speed, as one of Solana’s developers created the plugin over a single weekend.

Yakovenko discussed why AI is becoming prominent on Solana compared to other blockchain networks. He attributed it to Solana’s cost-efficiency and speed, enabling AI-powered transactions to be conducted within the ChatGPT loop. He emphasized that both speed and cost advantages are essential for delivering a superior user experience, making Solana an ideal platform for AI integration.

Regarding the stage of applying AI to Solana, Yakovenko noted that the current focus is on exploring the capabilities of AI. He encouraged developers to write plugins for their software and interact with AI to discover its potential applications. He compared the experience to using a Star Trek computer, where users can issue commands, and the computer executes them. Large language models (LLMs) have brought us closer to that type of interaction, offering a unique and exciting experience.

Yakovenko believes that AI will have a significant impact on the Solana ecosystem. Developers are already leveraging AI for documentation, code generation, bug detection, and vulnerability identification. He also mentioned the potential for AI-optimized monitoring tools for validators, providing efficient data analysis capabilities.

In terms of specific AI applications on Solana, Yakovenko anticipates that AI models trained on crowdsourced data from crypto-based projects will play a crucial role. These projects, such as Hivemapper, can provide up-to-date data sources for training AI models. Additionally, Yakovenko envisioned an AI plugin that generates and mints NFT sets based on user specifications, automating the creation process and even building out associated lore and stories.

Yakovenko clarified that AI does not take away the enjoyable aspects of work but rather eliminates the challenging and tedious tasks. By leveraging AI’s capabilities, developers can focus on the creative and innovative aspects of their work, while AI handles the laborious parts.

Solana Labs’ integration of AI, particularly through Chat GPT, signifies an exciting development in the blockchain industry. As Solana continues to advance its AI initiatives, it opens up new possibilities for user interactions, automated processes, and data analysis within the Solana ecosystem.
