Solana core development team Anza said on X that the first feature flag for Solana proposal SIMD-0437 has been activated on testnet. According to Foresight News, the proposal includes five feature flags and aims to reduce Solana's per-byte storage cost by 90% overall.

Once fully implemented, lamports_per_byte will fall from 6960 to 696, and the rent-exempt deposit for token accounts will drop from about $0.16 to $0.016.
