Square keeps saying $DUSK slowly shrinks because fees get burned. I had to separate two flows to read that claim.

Fees get folded into the block reward and paid out to whoever is in that consensus round. A busy day just moves coins from users to the people keeping the chain running. Fees never leave the system in that writeup. They just change hands at the next block. I had the fee section and the penalty page from @Dusk open at the same time.

The coins that actually get destroyed are the ones hit by a hard slash. An invalid vote, two conflicting messages from the same key, that key running on more than one node. I cannot size the burn side against the fee recycle side, because slash frequency is not in that writeup.

If network activity stays low while new tokens enter circulation, dilution pressure matters.
If activity grows:
More transactions
→ More fees
→ More utility
→ More staking demand
That changes the equation.

So I’m not asking:
“Is DUSK inflationary?”

I’m asking:
Can network growth outpace the economic cost of that inflation?
