**$BNB Bridge Hacked — Millions of Tokens Minted from a Deposit That Never Happened**
An attacker found a flaw in the proof-verification logic of Binance's BSC Token Hub bridge. A forged proof was crafted that looked valid but wasn't actually tied to any real transaction. The buggy logic accepted it as genuine, and the system minted new BNB as a result.
Across two successful attempts, roughly 2 million BNB was minted — worth around $570 million at the time. The attacker put 900,000 BNB up as collateral on the Venus protocol to borrow USDT and USDC, then swapped those funds out to other chains.
Binance's team immediately halted the entire BSC network. The bridge's own records showed the transactions as valid — the real problem wasn't in user funds, it was in the proof-verification model itself. The remaining funds were burned, but a large portion had already moved to other chains outside Binance's control.
