Troubleshooting: Proof of Address for UK and EEA Countries

2022-01-07 10:18
The proof of address is part of our Identity Verification process. Once you register an account with Binance, you will be asked to upload two documents: Proof of Identity (POI) and Proof of Address (POA). In this troubleshooting article, we explain how to prove your address and how to upload it successfully so that you can pass Identity Verification. This proof of address troubleshooting guide consists of three parts:
Part 1 explains what the Proof of Address is and what types of documents are eligible for it.
Part 2 explains what documents count as Proof of Address.
Part 3 explains how to upload a Proof of Address document and pass the Identity Verification.
Part 1: What is a Proof of Address?
In order to verify your account, we are required to collect two documents from you: proof of your identity and proof of your address. We can only verify your identity when you provide us with both of these documents. The Proof of Address is a document that validates your address. During account verification, you will be asked to enter your full name, residential address, and then upload a document that proves that this is where you live. If the name and address you provided match the name and address of the document, it is a passed.

The document you upload must meet certain criteria to be eligible as a proof of your address. It must be issued in your name and must match the name of the Binance account owner. It also must not be older than 3 months and contain the following information:
  • Your Name
  • Your Home Address
  • The Date of Issue
  • The Issuing Authority
  • A Reference to this Issuing Authority (e.g. a logo, contact information or a website)
Part 2: What documents count as Proof of Address?
Common Proof of Address examples:
  • Municipality bill for utility services, such as electricity, water, sewerage
  • Municipal rates & taxes statement
  • Internet service provider account statement
  • Bank statement
  • Mortgage statement
  • Body corporate statement
  • Building management statements
  • Landline telephone bill
  • Government issued documents:
    • Communities and Local Government
    • Department for Work & Pensions
    • Tax authorities/finance ministry
    • Department for Education
    • Justice Ministry/Police
What documents do not count as a proof of address?
  • Receipts, invoices, handwritten bills or delivery slips
  • Old government-issued correspondence (older than 3 months)
  • Old bank statements (older than 3 months)
  • Old utility bill linked to the property (older than 3 months)
  • Pension statements
  • Bank references
  • Insurance policies
  • Mobile phone bills
  • Medical bills
  • Receipt for purchases
  • Insurance statements
  • Documents stating PO Box addresses
Part 3: How to upload the Proof of Address?
In this section, we describe how to successfully scan and upload your Proof of Address so that we can verify your address, and you can pass your identity verification process. Follow these guidelines and instructions for successful scans.
  • Check that your document is not older than 3 months. Binance only accepts Proof of Addresses that are dated within the last 3 months from the date of issuance.
  • Make sure your document can be used as a Proof of Address. If you are unsure, please refer to [Part 2] of this guide.
  • Check that the name and address on your Proof of Address document match the name and address you submitted during the Binance account registration process.
  • Scan all four corners of your document and make sure it's clearly visible. All text should be readable.
  • Please use original, unedited documents only and avoid documents with cuts. Scans or screenshots should not have any blurs, reflections and should not be in black & white.
  • Make sure your document is in the correct format and file size. We accept .PDF, .JPG, .JPEG, and .PNG. If you are unsure of the file format, right-click on the document and click [get info]. Uploading documents in other formats will not work.

Please note that the review time of your proof of address may take up to 5 working days. You will be notified about the outcome of the process - prior to or during this review time, there is no need to contact customer support.
