Samsung reportedly plans to exit 8-inch foundry production entirely by the end of 2030, according to The Elec. That leaves customers making PMICs, display drivers, MCUs and image sensors facing a costly transition. Mature-node chips aren't always easy to migrate to 12-inch wafers. Analog and high-voltage processes can require redesign and qualification, while alternative 8-inch capacity is already constrained. Samsung's exit could improve pricing power for qualified replacement foundries. But the winners will be those with matching processes and available capacity, not simply anyone operating an 8-inch fab. $SAMSUNG

Marvell is buying Lumentum in an all-stock deal valued at roughly $115B in enterprise value at the announcement reference price. Lumentum shareholders get 4.5 Marvell shares per share. Closing is expected in H1 2028. The strategic prize is control of a critical optical bottleneck. Marvell already supplies custom silicon and high-speed connectivity. Adding Lumentum's lasers and optical components could give it more control over the full interconnect design — and potentially more pricing power as AI systems move further toward optics. But that control comes at a steep price, with regulatory approval and integration still ahead. The deal's value rests on whether tighter silicon–optics integration creates enough incremental profit to justify the premium. $MRVL.US

AI infrastructure spending is starting to reshape hyperscaler cash flow. Meta reported $34.9B in Q3 capex and negative $2.1B in free cash flow. Alphabet also reported negative $9.1B in quarterly FCF, despite strong Google Cloud growth. Amazon's trailing-12-month FCF fell to negative $42.4B as infrastructure investment accelerated. The investment question is shifting from how much capacity these companies can fund to how quickly that capacity generates cash. I'll watch capex-to-revenue conversion, financing costs and FCF recovery separately. Strong AI demand alone won't settle the return-on-capital question. $META.US $AMZN.US $GOOGL.US

NVIDIA is reportedly discussing billions in credit support for Nscale's 460 MW West Virginia data center serving Anthropic. The proposed structure is notable: a residual-value guarantee on the facility itself, not simply a GPU purchase commitment. If Nscale defaults on construction payments, NVIDIA could have to step in and help recover value from the site. Nscale has up to $44.6B in contracted Anthropic payments, yet financing the infrastructure remains a separate hurdle. GPU suppliers may increasingly have to support the credit behind the capacity that buys their chips. The deal isn't signed. I'll watch the guarantee cap, triggers and whether lenders actually finance the project on better terms. $NVDA.US
