For a long time, I thought blockchain finality was basically a matter of waiting. Get enough confirmations and the transaction is considered safe. Probabilistic and deterministic finality felt like two different ways of describing the same idea. Digging into Dusk’s Succinct Attestation mechanism changed that view. Ethereum’s finality is probabilistic: every additional block makes a reorg increasingly unlikely, but there’s no absolute technical point where a transaction can never be reversed. The commonly accepted 12–35 block range is essentially a “safe enough” convention rather than a hard guarantee. Dusk’s Succinct Attestation takes a different approach. Once a block passes two rounds of committee voting, its finality becomes deterministic. It’s technically final, not simply considered final by convention. Another detail caught my attention: SA can achieve a comparable security level to a well-known blockchain with 2,000+ nodes using just two voting rounds with 64 of 100 committee participants. That’s an interesting example of how committee-based consensus can provide strong statistical security without requiring thousands of validators. And this matters beyond the technical side. In institutional finance, settlement certainty is critical. Assets changing hands isn’t enough if there’s still uncertainty about whether the transaction is truly final. That leaves me with a bigger question: if deterministic finality is so important for regulated settlement, why are so many RWA projects still relying on infrastructure without that guarantee? And when settlement goes wrong, who takes responsibility? #dusk @Dusk $DUSK $BTC $BNB
