Odaily Planet Daily News: With the help of the police and cyber authorities, L3yum (@l3yum), a victim who lost 90 ETH worth of crypto assets in a hack, has had the attacker's USDT address blacklisted. As a result, he may be able to recover most of his funds. On March 16, L3yum's crypto assets worth 90 ETH were stolen after the hacker managed to obtain the seed phrase of his hot wallet, including several Yuga Labs-related NFTs, as well as some cryptocurrencies and other NFTs from smaller projects, and then the attacker quickly exchanged or sold the stolen assets. In an X post on August 11, L3yum emphasized that the hacker's Ethereum-based USDT address had been blacklisted, noting: "Today, after working with my country's police and cyber teams, I was able to get the stolen funds in the USDT address frozen and blacklisted." At the time of writing, 90 ETH is equivalent to approximately $166,000, but there are only $107,306 worth of USDT in the blacklisted wallet, indicating that victims may not be able to fully recover the stolen funds. Although it is not 100% certain whether the victims will be compensated, in previous similar cases where USDT addresses were blacklisted, Tether has destroyed the blacklisted USDT and reissued the equivalent assets to the original owners. It is also worth noting that Tether's blacklisting of USDT addresses is usually after a court order. (Cointelegraph)
