I don’t know if you have noticed recently that when the market is calm, the “big companies” in the Web3 field are “extending branches” and expanding their boundaries beyond their core businesses: Today, Tether CTO Paolo Ardoino said that it will launch USDT and XAUT mobile payment applications; on August 8, Circle released a programmable Web3 wallet platform to help companies provide digital asset payment services to customers; on August 7, Etherscan launched the Blockscan Chat mobile APP, which aims to meet users’ Web3 communication needs...

As a Web3 chat software newbie, I can’t wait to review Blockscan, a social product of “blockchain technology experts”, and report my experience as follows~

Blockscan is currently in Beta testing mode. Users are able to participate in wallet-to-wallet instant chats, access chats from multiple devices, block spam or unwanted addresses, and receive notifications on the block explorer when messages are received.

The first step is to log in. It supports Mac and App, as well as MetaMask, WalletConnect, and Coinbase Wallet. But when I used Metamask, a message popped up saying "deep linking is not supported". It might be due to the region or the lack of compatibility? I switched to WalletConnect and tried several times before finally connecting.

There are two ways to send instant messages on Blockscan Chat. One is off-chain and free. Some people question its "centralization", but in my personal opinion, decentralization is only a means, not an end, so there is no need to blame it. The other is decentralized chat, which can use the "IDM" function (data message).

Of course, no matter which of the above methods is used, once the sender and receiver's addresses are logged in to Blockscan Chat, all messages will be encrypted (except for addresses holding API keys and secure multi-signature addresses).

In terms of personal privacy and data storage, information is stored via a "global hosting provider" with servers in multiple regions, and inactive data is deleted after 24 months.

In other words, the storage method is centralized, but the distribution is decentralized.

It also states that this information will not be traded to third parties, but will be disclosed or transferred to partners such as data warehouses, IT service providers and data analysis agencies.

According to its Terms of Service, any user who violates its Acceptable Use Policy (such as providing false, inaccurate or misleading information) may be banned from using some or all Blockscan and Etherscan related services.

Recently, a big guy (nd 4.eth) destroyed 2,500 ETH into a black hole, and also destroyed many blue-chip NFTs. Soon after, fake accounts appeared on X (formerly Twitter), launching phishing attacks such as airdrops, but on Blockscan Chat, you can directly use the ENS domain name to initiate a conversation, that is, only the owner of the account can be matched to chat. This method is also suitable for NFT trading conversations. Does it reduce the risk of substitutes?

Additionally, the company conveniently released a mini-game where users can interact with the AI bot and have a chance to win some testnet ETH.

As far as the current situation is concerned, most of the users are ENS users. I took the opportunity to send a message to Vitalik (vitalik.eth) to express my admiration. As a result, he did not reply to more than three messages, and the system directly popped up "Anti-spam option is enabled", which is quite "humane" in design. Chat software brings convenience to friendships and life, but it also brings pressure. People have to deal with relationships with friends almost all the time, and they have lost a place to "escape", which is quite terrible, especially for those who are not good at dealing with interpersonal relationships.

This is not "anti-trash" at all, it's giving the soul a chance to breathe.

To sum up, the Blockscan Chat interface is concise and visually friendly. Secondly, it has launched an API interface, and Web3 projects can be directly integrated, so that users can interact conveniently, especially for NFT/Gamefi projects, which directly saves a lot of development costs and opens up new imagination space for business development. It supports anonymous negotiation, which provides convenience for white hat hackers who often need to communicate about attack incidents. It provides an opportunity for dialogue for NFT transactions, or can save handling fees and directly bypass platform transactions (or bargaining).
